Memories with Fr. Mike
Fr. Mike walked the community, listening to people’s stories, offering comfort, and often returning with a new friend or two.
He had a devotion to the sick and elderly, visiting homes and bringing small comforts: a blanket, a prayer, a moment of companionship.
He celebrated local traditions and embraced Salvadoran culture, joining festivals and sharing in local meals with genuine joy.
His faith inspired many to serve; numerous volunteers cite his example as the reason they returned year after year.
We remember Fr. Mike for his compassion, humility, and steadfast service. His presence shaped many lives here, and his legacy continues in the ongoing work and in the countless stories people still share.
Fr. Mike Horan 20 years ago, started a mission in El Salvador building places of worship for the locals to celebrate Mass and also classrooms where the young and old could study scripture. We are at present beginning a new project at Ciudad Toledo where we will begin building a clinic and a chapel. The country of El Salvador has been ravaged by violence for many years. The people are beautiful and so deserving of any help we can give them.
